Talks

 

Shai has been invited to speak about industry related matters, often talking about producing surrounding issues of landscape and ecology and international collaboration.. Some of these include local, regional and international opportunities. He also facilitates talks and panels on similar issues as well as to youths and teachers regarding a career in the arts and arts education. Some of these have been hosted by the National Arts Council, the Polytechnic Forum and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) For Sight Lines Productions, he has conducted and coordinated pre and post-show talks to students and book club sessions with teachers.

ASIA @ THE FRINGE NETWORK

Shai is a part of the Asia @ the Fringe Network which he started at the Edinburgh Fringe with the support of fellow Asian producers and artists in 2016. He has been organising and hosting the Asian Artists Gathering there since 2016 and most recently, curated and hosted the new, Getting to Know Asia panel.

TEDx: RoyalCentralSchool

Shai spoke on the topic, "Diversifying Diversity: Tomorrow's Theatre Today" as part of TEDx:RoyalCentralSchool in September 2017 at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

BIPAM: UNDER THE SEA: SINGAPORE

Shai was invited to be a part of the Bangkok International Performing Arts Meeting (BIPAM) Under the SEA series, which featured artists and creatives from the different Southeast Asian countries. He was on the panel representing Singapore.

TPAM: GROUP MEETING

Shai co-hosted group meetings at the Performing Arts Meeting in Yokohama (TPAM). The first was Independent Producing in Singapore with Producers SG and the other was Introducing Asia @ the Fringe Network with network members, mycreate from Japan.

THE MEKAR PROGRAMME

Shai facilitated the closing panel session of The Mekar Programme with the artists involved in the programme. The project is a partnership between Bhumi Collective and artseen (National Library Board) exploring a pilot performance development programme for emerging artists.

TALK@SAC: ARTIST RESIDENCY

Shai was invited by the National Arts Council (NAC) to facilitate a talk with Norhaizad Adam and Neil Chua regarding their experiences of the artist residency programme at Stamford Arts Centre.

SCOPE #10 by Dance Nucleus

Shai was invited by Dance Nucleus to speak at SCOPE #10. Entitled "Bhumi Bound: Reflections on a Producing Practice" where he spoke about his producing practice through the lens of Bhumi Collective.

MATCHBOX
 

Shaiful was a speaker at the National Arts Council Matchbox series of talks entitled Call Me Crazy. Organised by the Youth Arts department, the talk focused on arts practitioners who had left the comforts of a stable job to pursue a freelance career in the arts. 

SINGAPORE
ARTS FESTIVAL 2012

Shaiful was invited to present a paper entitled "Encouraging Creativity Through Performance Building" at the Teachers' Symposium of the Singapore Arts Festival 2012. The paper focused on the aesthetics programme that he had started in Junyuan Secondary School, which encouraged students to self-create works during CCA sessions.

Shai was invited by The Arts House to facilitate a talk with Wesley Leon Aroozoo and Miki Hawkinson regarding their experiences working on the journey of documenting and translating the novel, I Want to Go Home.

POLYTECHNIC FORUM 2013

Organised by Nanyang Polytechnic, The Polytechnic Forum 2013 focused on Community and how community action projects can be conducted in respective communities. Shaiful was invited to be a speaker and community partner for "Arts a Way of Life" alongside music duo, Jack & Rai. He spoke about the joys and challenges of organising arts based events and programmes in Tampines. 

MUSICALS APPRECIATION SERIES

Since 2008, Shaiful has been curating and producing musical revues for Musical Theatre Live! These revues usually revolve around a specific theme and the songs, which are selected from existing musicals, are then curated to suit the theme. The repertoire is also accompanied by a background of each song, facilitated by Shaiful.
